What Is Online Marketing?
Everyone by now has heard about online marketing, but most people don’t understand, in reality, what is online marketing. They think that it is some mystical means of getting people to your website, but it isn’t.
Online marketing is just a way to take advantage of traffic patterns, keyword results, and niche marketing in order to make sales that would not otherwise be yours.
If you had a business in the real world, on a street or in a mall, you would be utilizing your own type of marketing. You might have ads in the local paper or the phone book, you might send out postcards to your loyal customers, or put coupons in shopping magazines. You would pay to have a big sign built, business cards printed, and get your name out there any way you could. But, what is online marketing and how can it work the same way?
When you are doing business online, you need the same kind of saturation. You need people to remember and search for your brand name, or at least your product name, and you need to have a URL that people can easily remember.
This is the same as having a store in a mall that is easy to park in. You also need your product to come up in the search results of the most common keyword combination for your product.
When people ask “What is online marketing?”, they have usually been misled into thinking that it is the same kind of marketing that you would do in-person, but on the web – and it isn’t. Online marketing is “thinking outside the box”, and finding new ways to get the attention of a worldwide audience, beating out your competitors, and making sales even from people who were just coming by to browse. It is a new way of marketing.
